| Beloved brothers and sisters in
Christ, As Bishop of the Diocese , it is my privilege to welcome you to East Kerala Diocese of the Church of South India (CSI). CSI is an amalgamation of Presbyterian, Episcopal and Congregational Churches. Born in the lap of hills and valleys, East Kerala Diocese rose from the darkness of ignorance to the marvellous light of the Gospel on Easter Sunday, April 3 1983 as the 21st Diocese of the Church of South India. Now ours is the fastest growing Church in Anglican Communion. We are now in the 25th year of our journey as a pilgrim Church. With our head quarters in Melukavumattom, we comprise the whole of Idukki and Eastern part of Ernakulam and Kottayam districts of the beautiful State of Kerala. We started the Diocese with no financial resources but rich in faith and determination to serve God through evangelism, pastoral care and overall development of the capabilities of our people. We have made great strides towards our objectives but we still have a long way to go. God has blessed us with a beautiful land with many natural advantages. However, the effects of poverty, difficult terrain, natural disasters, insensitive modernisation and now the uncertainties of the global market place have combined to give us a real challenge! |

| With God’s help, we work extremely hard to serve our people. We supply food and shelter for the poor, provide primary health care, operate hostels for tribal children, run educational institutions and run self help programmes for the weaker, neglected and displaced members of our society. All this we do through our local efforts and the wonderful help of our friends. | |
| Despite our success so far, we now recognise that we also have to make a supreme effort to safeguard the longer term future of our children. If they are to live secure and safeguard their faith in this changing world and live happily, we need to offer leadership, training and development to create new skills and new opportunities for them to meet the new challenges that we face. | |
